As our nation and the world at large wrestles with the unprecedented implications of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are facing pervasive human problems of poverty and hunger more than ever expected.
With a larger concentration of over 60% of people in the informal economy, an average Nigerian depends on daily income to survive, therefore, the lockdown of the nation deprived a lot of household of their daily livelihood which resulted to extreme hunger within our communities.
In April, 2020, we launched the PEPC COVID-19 EMERGENCY FOOD RELIEF PROGRAMME in Ikorodu, the fastest growing part-exurb of Lagos Metropolis.
With this programme, we were able to reach 5,000 households with palliatives across the administrative units of Ikorodu Local Government Area which includes Imota, Igbogbo/Bayeku, Ijede, Ikorodu North, Ikorodu West and Ikorodu Central.
Given the nature of the hunger crisis during the pandemic, this programme provided 5,000 relief packages of rice, vegetable oil, loafs of bread, hand sanitizers, spaghetti amongst others to the various households within the Ikorodu Community to keep them well.
